Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for Greenfield Mayor, has a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance and was an investigator for the Defense Security Services?
It's true! Well the clearance has probably lapsed by now but Dave did have a Top Secret Clearance both while he was enlisted and as a private contractor. Dave was responsible for the security of sensitive documents and materials while serving as a Security Police Specialist at Wright Patterson AFB.
Dave also worked for a private contractor - Mantech out of Alexandria Virginia during the late 90's and early 2000. Dave was responsible for conducting clearance investigations of military and Department of Defense personnel in the tri-state area of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. His attention to detail cleared the way or denied the way for many. Many of those that were cleared went on to have long careers in the service of our great country!
So, you may be asking yourself - what does this have to do with being the mayor?
A mayor has a lot of responsibilities within his/her community. Responsibilities like choosing the department heads - Police Chief, Fire Chief, Street Department etc. Those choices require the ability to judge talent, skills, knowledge, character and ethical behavior of the various personnel. Dave learned all of these skills as a highly trained and skilled investigator for the Department of Defense.
A mayor often finds himself/herself in a position of high trust and confidence. The mayor must be trained in how to handle high trust and confidence situations to ensure that those confidences are not broken. Through his years of dedicated service as a military NCO, a police officer, a police detective, a deputy coroner, and a credentialed federal investigator, Dave has acquired all of these necessary skills.
Many leaders today are eloquent in speech with lots of campaign promises.
The real qualifying questions are;
Can they deliver to the people that they serve?
Have they grown and developed through the ranks?
As novice to apprentice and journeyman, are they masters in managing people and the issues of life?
A true leader must be ready to influence the thinking, behavior and development of people working within their communities for the good of everyone.
