Did You Know volume 4/40
Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for mayor of Greenfield, was nominated for and won The Best of Hancock County in the Volunteer/Community Supporter category?
Yes! It's true! Dave is the only candidate for mayor that has been nominated for The Best of Hancock County award 2 years in a row. Dave was named The Best of Hancock County in the Volunteer/Community Supporter category in the inaugural contest in 2021 and again in this year's contest. Dave won by receiving an overwhelming majority of community votes last year and by an even larger number of votes this year. None of the current declared candidates for mayor have ever been nominated and only 13 people in the 2 year existence of this competition have won twice. Current mayor, Chuck Fewell is one of those 13 individuals.
Unlike many other nominees for this county level competition, Dave did not solicit votes, boost posts, or use any other means to get people to vote for him other than a leadership skill that he has developed over a number of years - The Law of Influence.
The Law of Influence states "the true measure of leadership is influence—nothing more, nothing less"
So, why is influence an important skill set for a mayor? Good Question! A mayor has to have influence in order to lead others. Without the ability to influence, no one will follow the leader. There is a widespread misunderstanding about leadership. That misunderstanding is that leadership and managing are the same.
Let's take a look at the differences between the two -
- Leaders influence people to follow and if you want to see changes in how the City of Greenfield conducts business on a daily basis then you must have a leader with influence.
- Managers focus on maintaining systems and processes that are already in place.
