Nous Resterons La

Nous Resterons La “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people” -2 Timothy 3:1-5. When you contemplate these scriptures, does any of these prophecies relate to where we are in 2022? As servant leaders, we can influence others for good, it is important for us to pause and see if we have been hijacked by the darkness that surrounds us. During the crepuscular hours of July 15, 1918, the German army began crossing the Marne River in assault boats. Allied forces having already endured more than 3 hours of heavy artillery bombardment were exhausted and on the brink of being beaten. Major Gen...

Did You Know 5/40 - Transformational Leadership

Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for Mayor of Greenfield once managed 27 Sam's Clubs throughout the midwest? It's true! I managed 27 Sam's clubs within the "Central Region" of the United States. Central Region was the largest region in the Sam's Club portfolio and generated approximately $65,000,000 in total sales each year. I was tasked with "fixing" this region when I was promoted. I inherited 6/27 stores without managers and my new stores had the lowest sales in the region in 2014. Within 1 year, I was able to turn this region around and took my team from last in the region to best in the region. My region had a 70.01% YOY sales lift during my first 12 months as regional manager.  So, how was I able to turn an underperforming region around so quickly? Good question!  I analysed my market by conducting store visits over the first 60 days of taking over. I took notes, talked with staff, and developed a plan of action for my team. My plan of...

Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for mayor of Greenfield, was nominated for and won The Best of Hancock County in the Volunteer/Community Supporter category?  Yes! It's true! Dave is the only candidate for mayor that has been nominated for The Best of Hancock County award 2 years in a row. Dave was named The Best of Hancock County in the Volunteer/Community Supporter category in the inaugural contest in 2021 and again in this year's contest. Dave won by receiving an overwhelming majority of community votes last year and by an even larger number of votes this year. None of the current declared candidates for mayor have ever been nominated and only 13 people in the 2 year existence of this competition have won twice. Current mayor, Chuck Fewell is one of those 13 individuals. Unlike many other nominees for this county level competition, Dave did not solicit votes, boost posts, or use any other means to get people to vote for him other than a leadership skill that he has...

Did You Know volume 3/40

Did You Know ? (3/40) Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for mayor of Greenfield, was the 1st Emergency Response professional to research, develop, create, and teach federally regulated and approved safety programs by the Department of Transportation – Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration? Note - Pipeline operators are primarily responsible for managing the flow of oil, natural gas, and other fossil fuel materials that circulate through pipelines. It's true! Dave was hired by a company that previously provided CFR 30 and 49 CFR part 192 safety information, via mailings, to stakeholders along interstate transportation pipeline systems. However, a pipeline accident on June 10,1999 that occurred in Bellingham WA changed the entire industry. The Bellingham accident conclusions by the NTSB determined ,in part ,that the national pipeline operators should provide more comprehensive stakeholder information than just right of way mailings. API RP 1162 was created s...

Dave Carver for Mayor - Did You Know #2

Did you know that Dave Carver, candidate for Greenfield Mayor, has a Department of Defense Top Secret clearance and was an investigator for the Defense Security Services? It's true! Well the clearance has probably lapsed by now but Dave did have a Top Secret Clearance both while he was enlisted and as a private contractor. Dave was responsible for the security of sensitive documents and materials while serving as a Security Police Specialist at Wright Patterson AFB.  Dave also worked for a private contractor - Mantech out of Alexandria Virginia during the late 90's and early 2000. Dave was responsible for conducting clearance investigations of military and Department of Defense personnel in the tri-state area of Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. His attention to detail cleared the way or denied the way for many. Many of those that were cleared went on to have long careers in the service of our great country! So, you may be asking yourself - what does this have to do with being the m...

August 14, 1988 34 years ago today a disturbing the peace call was dispatched and a young officer, Matt Faber (to my right in the photo), tragically and senselessly lost his life during the call. Matt, my friend and academy classmate,  followed the uncooperative suspect into his home…where the suspect grabbed a shotgun positioned near the door.. Faber, having nowhere to go, turned and retreated towards the outdoors. The suspect shot Faber in the back as he moved.. Faber fell, critically wounded, and was transported to Wishard Hospital (Eskanazi) soon afterwards.  I spent the next 12+ hours at the hospital consoling Matt’s wife Jan and members of both families. There were  hundreds of officers that assembled outside. All waiting and praying for Matt to survive. He did survive that night and he fought valiantly over the next couple of weeks while his family and I continued to visit, speak with him (he was unconscious), hold his hand, and prayed… before he was eventua...

Intolerable vs Intolerant

Image
Millions of Americans are INTOLERANT of the views of others. Let me give you an example - Democrats vs. Republicans. How many of you cringed when reading Democrats vs Republicans?   I too cringe when I'm drawn into an us vs them narrative. Which is EXACTLY the narrative that is being spread day in and day out across various social media platforms and news media outlets. Are you aware that it is possible to be a Democrat and NOT support abortion rights? Are you aware that it is possible to be a Republican and support abortion rights?   Isn't it about time that we all take the time to widen the lens through which we view our country, our state, or our local communities? Time to see beyond what makes us mad?  Some people can be intolerable however, through grace we don't have to be intolerant.  #DaveforGreenfield
